Explained: What Is ChatGPT Chatbot? The Latest AI Chatbot That Has Gone Viral

Announced by Elon Musk founded-independent AI research laboratory OpenAI, ChatGPT AI bot has taken over the internet by storm.

The world of tech and Artificial Intelligence (AI) is abuzz with discussions of an AI bot named ChatGPT by OpenAI, which is an impressive writer and is capable of understanding natural human language and producing detailed human-like written text. Announced by Elon Musk founded-independent AI research laboratory OpenAI, ChatGPT AI bot has taken over the internet by storm.

The maker of the AI chatbot, AI research startup OpenAI was co-founded with other Silicon Valley investors including technology venture capitalist Sam Altman in late 2015, saying that the research centre would “advance digital intelligence in the way that is most likely to benefit humanity”, as per a blog post at the time.

ChatGPT has been trained by AI and Machine Learning (ML) and features a system, which is designed to provide information and answer questions through a conversational interface. The AI is trained on a huge sample of text taken from the internet.

According to OpenAI, the new AI was created with a focus on ease of use. “We’ve trained a model called ChatGPT which interacts in a conversational way. The dialogue format makes it possible for ChatGPT to answer follow-up questions, admit its mistakes, challenge incorrect premises, and reject inappropriate requests. ChatGPT is a sibling model to InstructGPT, which is trained to follow an instruction in a prompt and provide a detailed response," said the research body in a statement.

According to early users who have used AI chatbot ChatGPT, the technology is supposedly an alternative to Google as it is capable of providing descriptions, answers and solutions to complex questions including ways to write code as well as solve layout problems and optimisation queries, says a report by The Guardian.

ChatGPT has invited users to give feedback and learn about its strengths and weaknesses. ChatGPT is a sibling model to InstructGPT, which follows instructions and prompts and provides detailed responses.

The model was trained using Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF), using the same methods as InstructGPT, but with slight differences in the data collection setup, according to the blog post. However, the company said that the AI chat interface comes with many limitations and they plan to make regular model updates to improve in such areas.
