Dubai’s Shaikha Mahra Mohammed Rashed Al Maktoum, who recently made headlines for announcing her divorce on Instagram, has introduced her latest perfume named 'Divorce'. The launch of the fragrance from her brand, Mahra M1, has sparked a buzz on social media.

What's The Perfume Called?

Ahead of the release, the 30-year-old daughter of Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum shared a teaser of the perfume on Instagram, revealing a sleek black bottle emblazoned with the word 'Divorce'.

The dramatic video included visuals of shattered glass, dark petals, and a black panther, symbolising the bold theme of the scent.

Why Did She Divorce Her Husband?

The announcement of the perfume comes shortly after the princess publicly ended her marriage to Sheikh Mana bin Mohammed bin Rashid bin Mana Al Maktoum on Instagram, just two months after the couple welcomed their first child. In a post dated July 16, Shaikha Mahra accused her husband of infidelity and declared their separation with the statement: “Dear Husband, as you are occupied with other companions, I hereby declare our divorce. I divorce you, I divorce you, and I divorce you. Take care. Your ex-wife.”

Shaikha Mahra and Sheikh Mana were married in May 2023, and their daughter was born a year later. The couple’s highly publicised split has led to both parties unfollowing each other on social media, and their joint pictures have disappeared from their accounts.

In Islamic tradition, the concept of 'talaq-e-biddat', commonly known as triple talaq, allows a husband to dissolve a marriage instantly by pronouncing the word 'talaq' three times. While traditionally only men could initiate this form of divorce, women seeking separation typically pursue a different route called 'khula', where they request a divorce from their husband or through the courts. In some cases, women can negotiate the right to pronounce talaq within their marriage contracts.

Shaikha Mahra’s divorce announcement has drawn widespread attention, with many expressing support in the comments section of her Instagram post. Her bold move to launch a fragrance titled 'Divorce' appears to be a statement of empowerment and new beginnings amid her personal upheaval.
