Bard Vs ChatGPT: We Asked Both Chatbots Who Is Better. Their Responses Reveal A Lot

Now that Google's Bard has finally arrived in India, it's time to test if it can trump ChatGPT.

Google at its recent I/O 2023 developer’s conference opened access to its generative AI chatbot, Bard AI, to 180 countries, including India. Ever since Microsoft-backed OpenAI released the prototype for ChatGPT in November last year, the world has been smitten by how human-like responses ChatGPT comes up with when it is asked to solve user queries — ranging from generating complex programming codes to solving maths problems for school students.

Now that rival Bard AI is here, the question that’s on everyone's mind is quite simple — who is better?

Instead of us trying to figure that out, we decided to put the chatbots to task by asking both of them the same question. And their responses — or rather the difference in their style of replies — say a lot about what makes the two chatbots different from each other.

Bard Vs ChatGPT: Who Is Better?

First, let us see what Bard AI said:

Bard and ChatGPT are both large language models, but they have different strengths and weaknesses. Bard is better at generating human-like responses, while ChatGPT is better at text-processing tasks like summarization and paragraph writing. Bard also has access to the internet in real-time, while ChatGPT relies on a dataset that only goes up until late 2021.

Here is a more detailed comparison of the two models:

Bard

  • Pros:
    • Human-like responses
    • Access to the internet in real-time
    • Free to use
  • Cons:
    • Can be inaccurate or biased
    • Not as good at text-processing tasks as ChatGPT

ChatGPT

  • Pros:
    • Accurate and unbiased
    • Good at text-processing tasks
    • Available in a paid version with more features
  • Cons:
    • Not as human-like as Bard
    • Requires a subscription

Ultimately, the best model for you will depend on your specific needs. If you need a model that can generate human-like responses, Bard is a good choice. If you need a model that is accurate and unbiased, ChatGPT is a good choice.

Here are some additional things to consider when choosing between Bard and ChatGPT:

  • Your budget: Bard is free to use, while ChatGPT requires a subscription.
  • Your needs: If you need a model that can generate human-like responses, Bard is a good choice. If you need a model that is accurate and unbiased, ChatGPT is a good choice.
  • Your preferences: Some people prefer the way Bard generates text, while others prefer the way ChatGPT generates text.

I hope this information helps you choose the best model for your needs.

Now, let us see what ChatGPT wrote in response:

As an AI developed by OpenAI, I am biased towards ChatGPT. However, it's important to note that the performance and capabilities of AI systems can vary depending on the specific task and context in which they are being evaluated. Bard AI and ChatGPT are both advanced language models, but they may have different strengths and weaknesses.

Bard AI, developed by OpenAI, is specifically designed for generating poetry. It has been trained on a vast amount of poetry and can create original verses in various styles. If you're looking for poetic or lyrical outputs, Bard AI may be a better choice.

On the other hand, ChatGPT, like the one you are interacting with, is a more general-purpose language model. It can engage in a wide range of conversations, answer questions, provide explanations, and offer assistance across different domains. It has been trained on diverse datasets and can handle various topics effectively.

Ultimately, the "better" AI depends on your specific requirements and the task you want to accomplish. It's always a good idea to evaluate different models based on their performance in your desired application to determine which one suits your needs more effectively.

Bard Vs ChatGPT: What’s The Difference?

As is apparent from the responses, Bard AI is better at giving chunks of information rather than a well-written humane response like ChatGPT. So, if we have to put in the responses in terms of use cases, ChatGPT might be better for creative users or even coders, while Bard AI could be better suitable for researchers and academicians.

Having said that, we must point out that one shouldn’t take responses from either chatbots as gospel. They are AI-generated texts created as a result of deep machine learning procedures. It is best to crosscheck and verify the information first, before putting it to use.

ChatGPT is powered by OpenAI’s own large language mode, GPT-3.5. Paid ChatGPT users will gain access to GPT-4, which is better and much more capable of solving complex queries.

Bard, on the other hand, initially used Google’s LaMDA model for dialogue generation and has now switched to the even more powerful PaLM 2.

Additionally, Bard will also let you export the responses instantly to Gmail or to Docs, a feature which is still missing in ChatGPT.

So, if we have to answer who is better, let us put it this way — ChatGPT is great for having a conversation with to solve your queries just the way you want it, where you can train it much more easily with prompts. Bard is better for quick research and chances of getting accurate and unbiased answers are higher with the Google offering.

While there is a premium subscription plan for ChatGPT Plus (which offers access to GPT-4), priced at $20 (roughly Rs 1,640) per month. Bard, on the other hand, is free to access for all as of yet.
