Apple has already hinted at bringing more sophisticated AI-driven tools in a December update.

Apple may be gearing up to unveil its latest wave of AI-powered features sooner than anticipated. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that the iOS 18.2 update, packed with enhanced Apple Intelligence capabilities, could launch as early as the first week of December instead of later in the month. Notably, Apple is also rumoured to be exploring the integration of Google’s Gemini AI, similar to how ChatGPT powers OpenAI’s platform.

The tech giant has already hinted at bringing more sophisticated AI-driven tools in a December update. Apple iOS 18.2 To Arrive In December? Here's What You Can Expect

  • Integration of ChatGPT: Apple has confirmed that in December, system-wide writing tools and the virtual assistant Siri will gain access to ChatGPT. Once rolled out, users can request assistance from OpenAI's chatbot directly through these features. Additionally, both Writing Tools and Siri will acquire enhanced capabilities for understanding images and documents.
  • Image generation tools: In the developer beta of the iOS 18.2 update, Apple has introduced new image generation tools, such as the Image Playground app for creating images from text prompts and Genmoji for designing custom emojis. These tools are anticipated to become available to users with the iOS 18.2 update in December.
  • Visual Intelligence: In December, Apple is set to debut Visual Intelligence for the iPhone 16 series. This feature will include a new Camera Control button, enabling users to tap into Apple Intelligence to explore objects and locations around them. For instance, users can gather details about nearby restaurants or translate text instantly through the camera-like interface.
  • Writing Tools: The December update will enhance Apple Intelligence Writing Tools, making them even more versatile. In addition to ChatGPT integration, users will be able to refine their text by specifying adjustments, like transforming a dinner party invitation into a poetic message.

Google Gemini's Integration To Come Next Year?

Bloomberg reports that Apple is likely to incorporate Google’s Gemini AI into its iPhone operating system, following a model similar to ChatGPT. This integration, however, is expected to launch next year, as Apple may give OpenAI exclusive access for a limited period.

Earlier in the year, sources suggested Apple and Google were close to a deal to bring Gemini to iOS, macOS, and iPadOS, while Apple was also exploring alternatives like Amazon-supported Anthropic.

In addition, iPhone users can look forward to new features that enhance Siri’s personal context understanding, allowing the virtual assistant to deliver more tailored responses and demonstrate improved on-screen awareness.
