'Transfer Certificates For Unruly Students In Govt Schools': TN Minister's Remark Draws Flak
The activists and child rights organisations said that the move will badly affect the children from marginalised society.
Chennai: Child rights activists and children’s organisations condemned the statement of Tamil Nadu School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi on issuing Transfer Certificates (TCs) to unruly students in the Assembly on Monday. The Minister said that unruly students will be issued TCs and conduct certificates mentioning the reasons for their expulsion.
However, the activists and child rights organisations said that the move will badly affect the children from marginalised society.
In a statement, Tamil Nadu Child Rights Watch said, the students have returned to school after several months. Hence, there is a distance between the students and teachers and it is the root cause for many problems.
The children also lack mentorship and guidance, the statement said.

Tamil Nadu Teachers Association president PK Ilamaran said, there are behavioral issues among students due to the pandemic but teachers can provide counseling and correct the children.
However, the Minister's statement might force the students to take up anti-social activities, he said.
On Monday, the Minister also said that the mobile phones of students will be confiscated if they bring phones to school. He added that the students will be taught about good character, physical and mental well-being and the ill-effects of using drugs in a one-week activity to improve the behaviour of students in the next academic year.
