TN Makes Tamil Exam Mandatory For All State Government Jobs

The aspirants should clear the qualifying Tamil exam and if not TNPSC will not evaluate the answer sheet, the order said.

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government on Friday passed an order making it mandatory for government job aspirants to clear the Tamil paper with 40% of total marks. The order also said that Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) will not evaluate other papers of candidates if they fail to qualify in the Tamil exam. 

In a government order as per ABP Nadu, Mythili K Rajendran, Human Resource Management Secretary, said Tamil is mandatory for all recruitment exams under TNPSC and the candidates should score a minimum of 40 marks in Class 10 exams to attain the eligibility criteria.

The order further said, for TNPSC Group I, II and IIA posts, Tamil exam will be held along with main written exam. Tamil paper will also be prepared in such a way to test the skill of the candidates in translation, understanding and writing criteria. The students are also expected to receive 40 out of 100 to clear the exam.

The aspirants should have cleared the qualifying Tamil exam, and if not, TNPSC will not evaluate the answer sheet, the order said.

For Group III and IV exams, the general English option will be removed and Tamil will be made mandatory. The candidates should score 40% in Tamil exam for evaluation of other papers, it said.

The aspirants should also clear Tamil papers for Teachers Recruitment Board, Medical Services Recruitment Board and Tamil Nadu Uniformed Services Recruitment Board exams among others to qualify for the vacancies.
