Tamil Nadu Urban Local Body Polls: No Tickets For Party Cadres With Criminal Charges, Says CM Stalin

Elections are to be held for 21 corporations, 148 municipalities and town panchayats in the state

New Delhi: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Sunday asserted that no tickets will be given to the party cadres and workers with criminal charges in the upcoming Urban Local Body Polls, which are slated to be held on February 19. Elections are to be held for 21 corporations, 148 municipalities and town panchayats in the state.

Stalin urged the party cadres in a letter to settle their seat-sharing with allies, reports Times of India. For election preparedness, he said that he has discussed with MPs, MLAs and district secretaries. The report further said that the CM has directed that party candidates should be selected strictly after the seat-sharing process is completed. Besides, all elected representatives should take the government's schemes to the people.

In a letter, he asked the functionaries to expose two parties. "Expose the two parties (referring to the BJP and the AIADMK), which are against the welfare of the people, and tell them that state would never permit a non-secular force to get a foothold in the state," the CM said as quoted by Times of India.

"Local administration is the basis of good democracy. It will pave the way for the government's schemes to reach the people. The DMK is a movement that has always ensured that the local body is strengthened at all cost," he said as quoted in the TOI report.
