Chennai: Three people died and four others suffered injuries after a firecracker unit blast near Sattur of Virudhunagar district. The incident took place at the Solai Firework unit in Manjalodaipattii in Sattur on Wednesday morning. 


According to a report on Indian Express, seven persons including the owner of the unit were making firecracker when a sudden fiction in the combustible material led to a blast in the unit. 


In the impact, the owner of the unit Karuppasamy, workers Kasi and Senthilkumar died on the spot.

Among the four persons who suffered injuries, three persons have been identified as Muniyasami, Saraswathi and Ayyamal. The identity of one of the persons is yet to be known. 


All the deceased persons have been sent to Kovilpatti GH for autopsy while the remaining workers are also receiving treatment in the same hospital.


The cracker unit was reportedly functioning with a license. The police have booked a complaint and started the probe. The district revenue officer and police visited the spot to conduct an inquiry.


Earlier, four workers were charred to death in a firecracker unit blast in Sivakasi on January 1. Two other persons were near the site also suffered severe injuries and were rushed to the hospital. Following the incident, the owner of the factory Vizhivadu Murugan was arrested by the police. Based on the preliminary investigation, the police said, the cause of the blast could be the 'fancy' firecrackers manufactured by the owner.
