Tamil Nadu: Suspended Professor Arrested For Sexually Harassing Students

Another case of sexual harassment, this time from Bishop Heber College, Trichy, brought the education institutions to the dock questioning the safety of girl students in schools and colleges.

Trichy:  In similar cases to the PSBB school and Loyola College sexual harassment case in Chennai, the Trichy city police arrested the suspended associate professor & Head, Department of Tamil, here at Bishop Heber College, C.J. Paul Chandramohan on the charge of sexually harassing some girl students of the college a few months ago on July 7.

Paul Chandramohan's arrest comes days after he was suspended by the college authorities in compliance with the recommendations of its internal complaints committee, which confirmed complaints filed by a group of postgraduate women students in March this year with the principal.

According to The Hindu report, the alleged sexual harassment had happened during offline classes conducted in the college in February this year. The Associate Professor was alleged to have used dual-meaning words during the classes.

As per the police sources, Paul Chandramohan was arrested based on a complaint picked by the District Social Welfare Officer at Srirangam All Women Police Station in Trichy.

The registered a case against Paul Chandramohan under IPC sections 354-A (sexual harassment), 354-D (stalking), 294 (b) (uttering obscene words in or near any public place), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Woman Act, according to the sources.
