Stray Bullet Hits 11-Year-Old Boy On Head During CISF Practice In Tamil Nadu, Probe On

Hours after he was admitted to the Thanjavur GH, the bullet was removed from the boy's head but the patient's condition is still critical

Chennai: An 11-year-old boy on Thursday was hit by a stray bullet on his head while he was playing near a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) firing range in Tamil Nadu's Pudukottai. The personnel was undergoing training on the campus. The boy, who has sustained grievous injuries, is currently undergoing treatment at Thanjavur Medical College Hospital. 

According to a report on The Hindu, while the training session for the personnel was being conducted on the campus, a stray bullet shot from a rifle of one of the CISF personnel hit the boy who was playing some distance away from the range. Immediately the personnel rushed for help and took the boy to Pudukottai Government Hospital but he was referred to Thanjavur Medical College Hospital.

Hours after he was admitted to the Thanjavur GH, the bullet was removed from the boy's head but the patient's condition is still critical and the doctors will be monitoring his health condition, reports ABP Nadu.

The boy was identified as Pughazhendhi from Narthamalai village in Pudukottai district. He was playing near his grandfather's house in the district.

Following the incident, the Pudukottai police have established an investigation into the incident. They have also started interrogating the CISF staff about how the mishap took place on Thursday.

The district administration ordered to temporarily shut the shooting range until an assessment is done. The district collector said that the firing range will be allowed to operate after taking the necessary safety measures.
