Chennai: IIT Madras topped the list followed by IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi in the Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA) for promoting and supporting entrepreneurship through innovative means.


In total, seven IITs and IIS Bengaluru secured their place in the top 10 institutions across the country. 


According to a report on PTI, ARIIA is an initiative undertaken by the Ministry of Education to rank major higher educational institutions on the basis of entrepreneurship and innovation.


After IIT Delhi, the fourth position was given to IIT Kanpur followed by IIT Roorkee, IIT Bengaluru, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Kharagpur, National Institute of Technology, Calicut and Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology, Uttar Pradesh.

ARIIA also provides ratings by considering the parameters including the number of patents filed and granted, the startup of the students and faculty registered and the fund generated from the incubated start-ups. 


The participation for the ranking also doubled this year, said the MoE officials. Nearly, 1438 institutions including central and state universities, private universities, technical and non-technical private and government colleges took part in the ranking.

Talking about the achievement, Bhaskar Ramamurthi, Director of IIT Madras said, the institution is receiving the Most Innovative Institute ranking for the third consecutive time ever since Atal Rankings was initiated by the central government. The IIT Madras always emphasizes innovation among students and faculty and as a result, the institution has turned successful in the start-up eco-system of the country, he added.
