Tamil Nadu: Newly-Elected Local Body Representatives Take Oath
The indirect polls to elect Mayors and Chairmen will take place on Friday.
Chennai: After the state functioned without any civic leaders for over a decade, the civic bodies have finally got their representatives with the newly-elected local body members, who will take oath on Wednesday. Following this, there will be an indirect poll to elect the Mayor and other top leaders on March 4.
The candidates who were elected based on the results of urban local elections took oath at their respective district offices. Some of the prominent candidates, who won the polls and took the oath, include a transwoman candidate R Ganga of DMK from Vellore Municipal Corporation, the youngest candidate 22-year-old Nilavarasi won DMK ticket, lone BJP winner in Chennai Uma Anandhan and many other winning candidates.

In the recently concluded polls, DMK won a majority in all 21 municipal corporations, 138 municipalities and 490 town panchayats. The DMK also won the strongholds of AIADMK including the western belt of the state and the wards where AIADMK leaders Edappadi K Palaniswami and O Panneerselvam reside in Salem and Theni respectively.
After the victory, DMK president MK Stalin said that the win was an endorsement of the Dravidian model of governance. However, AIADMK coordinator O Panneerselvam said, Dharma will win eventually and AIADMK will win again as per people's wishes.

Meanwhile, in the indirect polls in the corporation, councilors will elect both the Mayor and Deputy Mayor while municipality and town panchayat members will elect the chairman and vice-chairman on March 4.
