On December 26, the health officials went to check on the baby but she was reported missing and the couple said that the baby died suddenly and they buried her near their home.
However, once the health officials left after an inquiry, the couple fled along with their two daughters. They just left behind Muthupandi's ailing father and ever since the police got suspicious about the couple, they have been interrogating the accused father.
The police spotted the place where the baby was buried and have decided to exhume the body. Following this, a post-mortem will be conducted on the baby on Wednesday.
The police have registered a case based on the complaint given by the Village Administrative Officer Muniyandi under Section 318 (Concealment of birth by secret disposal of dead body) of the Indian Penal Code.
