Tamil Nadu: Mother Sells 10-Month-Old Baby To AP Couple For Rs 85,000, Arrested
The police acted on the case based on a complaint from a CWC officer
Chennai: Three persons including the mother of a 10-month-old baby were arrested since she sold her baby to a couple in Andhra Pradesh due to poverty for Rs 85,000. The baby's father who was an auto driver could not earn money during the lockdown which forced the couple into debts. Hence, the couple decided to sell the baby for money.
According to a report on Times of India, Vijayalakshmi (30) of Kannagi Nagar and her husband Chinnadurai (35) decided to sell their 10-month-old baby Muthuraj for money. They then handed over their baby to a woman broker Thangam who agreed to give the baby to a couple in Andhra Pradesh for Rs 85,000.
The couple demanded additional money but Thangam denied citing that she was carrying out an illegal and difficult task.
Following this, the couple reached their home and the neighbours started questioning them about the baby. However, the couple said that their son was with their grandparents. The couple’s answer was not convincing for the neighbours but they continued to be suspicious.
Meanwhile, Thangam handed over the baby to Navaneetham and Pandurangan from Red Hills for Rs 3 lakh and the child was later kept in Putlur of Andhra Pradesh.
However, based on a tipoff CWC officer Lalitha learned about the dealing and lodged a complaint with Red Hills police. The police sent a team to AP to look for the baby and found the baby in AP. Further, the police arrested Vijayalakshmi, Thangam and Navaneetham for the crime.
