Tamil Nadu: Man, Daughter Killed After Electric Scooter Explodes In Vellore
The police suspect that the explosion might have likely occurred due to overcharging of the batteries.
Chennai: A father and his daughter were killed in an electric scooter explosion in Vellore on Saturday. The explosion took place while the duo was recharging the battery at their home.
According to a report on ABP Nadu, the deceased were identified as Durai Varma, who was a 49-year-old photographer and his daughter Mohana Preeti, a student of Tiruvannamalai Government school.
It all started when Durai Varma purchased an electric scooter in Tiruvanamalai two days back and was using the scooter. On Friday, as the battery was down, he tried to charge the scooter at his home along with daughter Mohana Preeti.
After charging the battery for a while, the duo once again came to see the scooter. However, the battery in the scooter suddenly exploded and the fire from the scooter immediately spread to two other vehicles. The duo who were standing nearby tried to escape the fire by running into their home. They then locked themselves in the bathroom. Yet, the fire spread across the home and within a few minutes both of them died due to asphyxiation.

The neighbours of the duo rushed to put out the fire but the blaze was uncontrollable, Hence, they called the Fire and Rescue Department for help. The personnel soon reached the spot and put out the fire.
The personnel then recovered the bodies of the duo and sent them to Tiruvannamalai Government Hospital for autopsy.
