Chennai: As many as 6,372 people fined for not wearing masks within the limits of Chennai Municipal Corporation in four days. Of over 6,300 people 2,010 people were fined only on Sunday. The greater Chennai corporation and police personnel collectively worked to monitor if people are following Covid guidelines and have collected Rs 12.74 lakh in four days, according to a report in The Hindu.


This special drive to monitor people following Covid guidelines in capital city to be continued till September 26 and this started from September 16. The Chennai Corporation Commissioner and City Police Comissioner in a meeting have chalked out a startegy to intensify the drive.


The Greater Chennai Corporation has set up voluteers to create awareness among people of wearing masks.

From Thursday, zonal enforcement teams started imposing fines on people who have been violating the Covid norms in the city especially in the large gatherings like malls, market places and temples. Surveillance teams have been deployed as part of the drive.


15 zonal enforcement teams were formed to keep a tab on the Covid violators. Besides, over 200 police personnel and 1,000 volunteers are also monitoring the violators.
