Tamil Nadu Government Doctors To Stage Token Fast Today

Some of the demands of the doctors include disbursal of assistance to families of government doctors who died due to Covid-19 and to implement pay band 4 at 12 years of service.

Chennai: The government doctors in Tamil Nadu are set to hold a token fast with multiple demands between 10 AM and 5 PM on Wednesday. Some of the demands of the doctors include disbursal of assistance to families of government doctors who died due to Covid-19 and to implement pay band 4 at 12 years of service.

The Legal Coordination Committee (LCC) of government doctors who are organising the protest said that the state government did not fulfill any of their demands as promised, reports IANS.

Dr Perumal Pillai, president of LCC said, our major demand to the government is that they should provide decent pay to the doctors with the lowest pay in the state on par with the doctors of other neighbouring states.

Then, he said, Dr Vivekananadan passed away due to Covid-19 illness but they have not given government jobs to his wife on compassionate grounds. The LCC met the state health minister along with the doctor's family but still, they have not been provided with any solution.

On October 20, the doctors first staged a protest in Madurai a few months after the DMK-led government took over the governance. During that time, Health Minister Ma Subramanian said, he will take up the issue with the Chief Minister. Hence, the doctors did not intensify the protest, he said.
