Tamil Nadu Animal Welfare Board Rescues 101 Pets From Yashuva Animal Trust

When the team of animal welfare organization and officials arrived, they found some animals dead.

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Animal Welfare Board, police, NGO and animal activists rescued 101 pets from a animal shelter named “Yashuva Animal Trust” on Sunday. The animals were rescued after complaints of malnourishment and long-term confinement without food or water. Some of the pets lodged in the shelter were also found dead. 

A press release from Heaven For Animals said, “On December 18, 2022, 101 cats, dogs, puppies and kittens were rescued from a notorious Animal Shelter named “Yashuva Animal Trust” Dharkast road, Ettiyapuram, Tambaram West Chennai-44.”

“All the animals were malnourished, kept in long-term confinement and without food or water. When the team of animal welfare organization and officials arrived, they found some animals dead,” it said.

The release also said, “None of the cages had water or food and were covered with their own urine and feces. The animals were rescued based on a complaint given by Prakash of HFA, NGO, after several complaints were received to HFA and TNAWB from the public.”

The rescue operation was supported by T11 Somangalam Police Station and Tamil Nadu Animal Welfare Board. Based on the complaint by Prakash of HFA, the police registered an FIR on sections 11, 428 and 429 of Indian Penal Code. 

The organisations including BMAD, MARS, People for Animals, Hope for Kritters, ROA by Dinesh Baba, LARA, Animal Care Trust and other individual activists joined hands in rescuing the Animals.

Last year, Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian said that fifty-six stray dogs died at the IIT-Madras campus. He said that old age and illnesses were the reason for the deaths and the dogs were age eight to ten years.
