Tamil Nadu: 3 Mild Earthquake Tremors Felt Within Short Span In Dindigul District

The micro-earthquakes were recorded in a magnitude ranging between 1.2-1.5 on the Richter scale. 

Chennai: Three mild earthquakes were experienced in Dindigul district of Tamil Nadu within a span of two hours on Friday, according to National Center for Seismology. The micro-earthquakes were recorded in a magnitude ranging between 1.2-1.5 on the Richter scale. 

According to a report on PTI, three micro-earthquakes were felt near Oddanchatram of Dindigul district, located 464 km from Chennai. 

On Friday, the first tremor was experienced at 4.33 am with a magnitude recording 1.2 on the Richter scale. The next tremor was felt at 6.04 am followed by another tremor at 6.07 am. Both the tremors recorded 1.5 magnitude on the Richter scale.

The depth of the tremor was 10 km, as per NCFS website.

However, as a result of the mild tremor, a couple of homes in Oddanchatram experienced cracks. The local officials also visited the villages to ascertain the damages caused by the mild tremors but only a few homes suffered cracks. 

Meanwhile, a much stronger earthquake of 3.5 magnitude on the Richter scale was experienced in Vellore of Tamil Nadu on December 23, 2021.

A day before the quake in Vellore, a similar earthquake of magnitude 3 was also experienced in Chikkaballapura district of Bengaluru in Karnataka. On the same day, the same region experienced another quake of similar magnitude in a gap of five minutes at 7.14 am of December 22, 2021.
