According to ANI, "Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin tables resolution in the Legislative Assembly urging the Union government to bring amendments in the laws to give reservation to the Adi Dravidians who have converted to Christianity."

The Assembly urged the Centre to provide legal protection, rights and reservations to the Adi Dravida Christians as provided to Scheduled Castes in the Constitution of India so that it enables them to avail the benefits of social justice in all aspects.

Stalin also said that it was only fair to provide them SC status since they converted after historically belonging to SC.

He said since they converted to another religion they cannot be denied the rights that are being continuously provided to other members of their community.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Minister for Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare N Kayalvizhi said that the state Assembly has been spending over Rs 2,000 crore for educational schemes to enhance literacy rate among SC/ST students.

“Out of 3,512 crore allocated for the department for the fiscal year 2023-2024, Rs 2,206 crore has been earmarked for educational schemes. This shows the department is giving priority to the development of education that is the basis for the integrated development of the Adri Dravidar people,” said the Minister, as per DT Next, while responding to the debate on demand for grants for the department.
