Chennai: Filmmaker Pa. Ranjith today officially announced the release date of his forthcoming sports drama 'Sarpatta Paramparai' on Thursday (July 8) by sharing the movie poster with Arya in an athletic pose. The most-anticipated movie based on boxing culture will skip the theatrical release and instead premiere on Amazon Prime Video on July 22.
The film stars Arya in leading as a boxer while Thushara Vijayan, Sanchana Natarajan, Kalaiyarasan, and John Vijay among others will be seen in supporting roles. Santosh Narayanan has composed the background score for the film.
'Sarpatta' is a joint venture of director Pa. Ranjith's Neelam Productions and K9 Studios. G Murali has taken charge of the cinematography and action choreographers Anbarivu Masters have directed the fight scenes of the film.
Arya's previous venture, 'Teddy' was also released on OTT platform Disney+Hotstar and was well received by the audience following which the makers of Sarpatta hoped to amass a good collection by streaming it on Amazon Prime.
Meanwhile, theaters in Tamil Nadu are still closed due to the second wave of the pandemic. Director Bharathiraja had demanded the TN government to allow theaters to open lifting the restrictions. The theaters are expected to open soon as the Covid -19 cases are declining in the state.
But, until the big screens open, movie makers simply can't let the best films go stale, in such cases, OTT platforms bring us the best content on time.
So seat yourself before the screens of Prime Videos on 22nd July and get inspired by the sporty spirit of 'Sarpatta'.
