Permission Given To Hold RSS Route March In 3 Out Of 50 Places Due To Intelligence Report: TN Police Tell Madras HC

In another 23 places, RSS was given permission to hold the march in closed spaces, Elango said.

Chennai: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh has been given permission to conduct a state-wide march at three places out of the fifty requested places on November 6, Tamil Nadu police informed Madras High Court on Wednesday.

According to a report on Bar and Bench, while the case came up for hearing before a single judge bench of Justice GK Ilanthiraiyan, Senior counsel NR Elango appearing for Tamil Nadu police said, permission has been given to hold the procession at Kallakurichi, Perambalur and Cuddalore districts.

The concerned Police Commissioners and Superintendents at 24 other places keeping in mind the Coimbatore car blast, law and order situation and heavy rainfall conditions have concluded that the scenario was not conducive for holding the march, he said.

In another 23 places, RSS was given permission to hold the march in closed spaces, Elango said.

However, the RSS counsel argued that the decision of the police was in contempt of the previous court order to permit a march, musical procession and public meets at 50 locations across Tamil Nadu on November 6.

They also said that it's not possible to conduct marches indoors and the said event was a peaceful one so the police need not fear about creating law and order issues.

The senior counsel appearing for RSS NL Rajah said that RSS' right to conduct a meeting or procession is not breached, as per Bar and Bench.

They also argued that the state police earlier gave a nod to Dalit Panthers for conducting events at multiple places so why should RSS not be granted permission.

Following this, Justice Ilanthiraiyan said that he will go through the intelligence report and pass an order on November 5 on whether or not the state is supposed to be held accountable on contempt charges.
