Madras High Court canceled the election of AIADMK MP OP Ravindranth from Theni on Thursday. The order was passed by Justice SS Sundar.
Yet, the Court withheld the order's operation in order to facilitate Ravindranath to file an appeal.
Ravindranath was the only MP from AIADMK in Lok Sabha.
OP Ravindranath is the son of former Tamil Nadu CM O Panneerselvam. Currently, O Panneerselvam is not in AIADMK since he was expelled by AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami in a power tussle. During the same time, OP Ravindranath was also expelled from the party.
In 2019, OP Ravindranath defeated Congress candidate EVKS Elangovan by a small margin.
Earlier, Edappadi Palaniswami in a letter told Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to not consider Ravindranath as AIADMK MP anymore.
A senior party leader said, "The former Chief Minister (Palaniswami) sent the letter on Wednesday to inform the developments in the AIADMK as he had done to inform the Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker recently."
