Chennai: The National Investigation Agency on Tuesday filed a chargesheet against six Tamil Nadu residents for their alleged involvement in an international human trafficking racket across India-Sri Lanka Maritime border. The chargesheet filed before a special court has charged six Tamils including Dhinakaran, Kasi Viswanathan, Rasool, SathamUshen, Abdul Muheetu and Socrates under various sections of IPC. 


In a report on PTI, the six Tamils have been charged for international human trafficking racket in the India-Sri Lanka Maritime border by promising the Sri Lankans of emigration to Canada and instead confining them at Tamil Nadu and Karnataka in India. 


The incident of human trafficking came to light in June 2021 in Mangaluru based on a tipoff that 25 Sri Lankans were staying in a lodge without valid documents. Following this, the police registered a case and conducted raids. In the subsequent raids, they apprehended another 13 Sri Lankans, said the report.

A preliminary investigation revealed that all 38 Sri Lankans were trafficked to India in four batches between February to April. All of them were confined in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka and their contacts with their families were cut off. 


Further, the investigation revealed that the six accused performed the organised crime with links of Sri Lankan suspects. 


All the more, all of 38 of them were charged 3.5 to 10 lakh in Sri Lankan Rupees to be taken to Canada. One of the prime accused Easan, a Sri Lankan national, along with his associates swindled 1.83 crore of Sri Lankan money in total. Further investigations are on.
