Chennai: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday predicted mild to moderate rainfall in parts of Tamil Nadu for the next two days due to cyclonic air circulation near the Bay of Bengal. The capital city Chennai is also predicted to remain cloudy for the next 48 hours.
In a bulletin, the IMD said, "Scattered low and medium clouds with embedded intense to very intense convection layover extreme Southeast Bay of Bengal and isolated moderate to intense convection layover Southwest Bay of Bengal and South Andaman Sea."
Further, the Regional Meteorological Centre said, "Mild to moderate rainfall is expected in parts of north Tamil Nadu including Trichy, Ariyalur, Perambalur and some places in Puducherry and Karaikal on Saturday."

"Heavy rainfall coupled with thunderstorms is also likely in scattered parts of Kanyakumari, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, Thenkasi and Ramanathapuram. However, the weather will be dry in the remaining places," it said.
The RMC predicted that the rainfall will continue in parts of Kanyakumari, Thoothukudi, Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tenkasi and Tirupur districts for the next two days while dry weather will continue in the remaining parts of the state and Puducherry.

As of Chennai, the weather will remain cloudy for the next 48 hours with mild showers in parts of the district. The maximum temperature is expected to be around 31 °C to 23 °C, the RMC said.
On Saturday, the highest rainfall of 11 cm was received in Velankanni of Nagapattinam district.
