IMD Forecasts Heavy Rainfall In 12 Tamil Nadu Districts Due To Trough

The IMD expects rainfall to continue in parts of Tamil Nadu till June 4. 

A day after the clouds of Chennai turned grey, India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted rainfall in parts of Tamil Nadu. The IMD, however, said that dry weather would prevail over Puducherry and Karaikal areas.

According to IMD, "Yesterday’s trough from west Vidarbha to south Tamilnadu across Marathwada & interior Karnataka at 0.9 km above mean sea level persists."

As a result of the trough movement, IMD said, "Light to moderate rain at a few places with thunderstorms & lightning at one or two places is likely to occur over Tamilnadu, Puducherry and Karaikal area."

"Heavy rain is likely to occur at one or two places over Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Theni, Dindigul, Erode, Salem, Karur, Namakkal, Tiruchirappalli, Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts of Tamilnadu," it said. 

On Thursday, IMD predicted that rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places over Nilgiris, Erode, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tirupattur and Salem districts of Tamilnadu.

Thunderstorms are also expected till June 2. The IMD also expects rainfall likely to continue in parts of the state till June 4. 

In Chennai, IMD said, “Sky condition is likely to be partly cloudy. Light /moderate rain with thunderstorm & lightning is likely to occur in some areas. Maximum temperature is likely to be 37-38 °C and minimum temperature is likely to be 27-28 °C.”

Meanwhile, the sky turned grey with the breeze in Chennai on Tuesday. Tamil Nadu Weatherman Pradeep John, an independent weather blogger in Chennai said,  “Much needed respite to the areas sizzling in heat, Vellore, Kancheepuram, Sriperbedur, Poonamalle, Thirverkadu, Palllavaram, Kundrathur & western suburbs of Chennai City. Gusts of 40-50 km/hr were recorded in many parts of city & suburbs. Parts of Chennai City gets road-wetting rains.”
