DMK Spent Rs 114.14 crores For Assembly Polls, Highest In The State

Election commission released the expenditure statements submitted by the political parties after assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Puducherry and West Bengal were conducted earlier this year

Chennai: DMK which had won the state assembly elections after ten years, had spent Rs 114.14 crores in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry for the election, according to a report submitted by the party to the election commission. The AIADMK had spent Rs 57.33 crores and the PMK had spent Rs 30 lakhs for the election. 

According to a report in the Times of India, the election commission has recently released the expenditure statements submitted by the political parties after assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Puducherry and West Bengal were conducted earlier this year. 

All India Trinamool Congress topped the list of political parties with high expenditure by declaring expenses of 154.28 crores for the election and it is followed by the DMK. The Congress had spent Rs 84.93 crores for the election, according to the report.

The report submitted by DMK’s general secretary S Duraimurugan, according to the report, said that they had received Rs 134 crore from all its sources from the date of announcement of the polls to date of completion of election. 

While the party had paid Rs 5 crores to the Indian Pac Consulting private limited as the propaganda consultation fee, it had spent Rs 48.75 crores on candidates in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, the report said and explained that the party had paid a sum of Rs 25 lakhs each to 188 candidates contested in Tamil Nadu and Rs 15 lakhs each to 13 candidates in Puducherry in addition to Rs 5.72 crores on publishing criminal antecedents of the candidates. 

The report said that DMK had spent Rs 2.25 crore for DMK Chief MK Stalin’s aircraft expenses and Rs 16 lakhs towards the travel expenses of other leaders, while they had spent Rs 39.78 crore on advertisements. 

Quoting the report submitted by the AIADMK to the election commission, the report said that the party had an opening balance of Rs 266.14 crores and the party received Rs 14.46 crore from all sources from the date of announcement of poll to the date of completion of election.
