Coimbatore Car Explosion: CM Stalin Recommends NIA Probe

Coimbatore Car Explosion: It may be noted that the deceased Jamesha was already questioned by NIA in 2019 for his alleged connection with ISIS. 

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin recommended a probe by National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with the Coimbatore car explosion case on Wednesday. 

Stalin chaired a high-level meeting on Wednesday over the incident. The meet was attended by Chief Secretary V Irai Anbu, principal secretary to CM Udhayachandran, DGP Sylendrababu and state intelligence chief Davidson Devasirvatham. 

After the meeting, Chief Minister's office issued a statement recommending a probe by NIA into the incident. In the statement, the CMO said, "A decision to urge the Centre to recommend a NIA probe in the incident was taken since such incidents may have international links. " 

As per the release, CM office's said, other decisions taken in the meeting include setting up three police stations in Karumbukadai, Sundarapuram and Goundampalayam, a special police force will be set up to avoid such incidents in the future and additional CCTV cameras will be set up in busy areas.

On Sunday, a car laden with two cylinders burst at Coimbatore. As a result, the driver Jamesha Mubin died on the spot. Jamesha was already questioned by NIA in 2019 for his alleged connection with ISIS.

Earlier, CCTV visuals showed Mubin and his accomplices shiting gas cylinders and explosives to the car. The police while conducting a raid at Mubin's residence found large quantities of Potassium Nitrate and Sulphur which were used for making country bombs.

On Tuesday, five persons were arrested in connection with the incident.
