Chennai: The police on Tuesday arrested 19 members in connection with the gang war that erupted in Alandur on Monday night. The fight between the two gangs of drug peddlers led by Robin and Meeran witnessed machetes and petrol bombs in Chennai on Monday. The fight also erupted between 30 members a day after Tamil Nadu police conducted 'Operation Lightning' and arrested many history-sheeters in the state.

According to a report on Times of India, the gang war that took place in full public view for more than 45 minutes in Abraham Street of Alandur took place due to a row over 'territory' control and previous enmity.

It all started after a drug peddler Nagoor Meeran was murdered in Adambakkam in 2021 by the gang members of Robin.

In retaliation to the murder, on Monday, Meeran's men kidnapped a member of the rival gang and tortured him. They demanded him to reveal the hideout of Robin. However, Robin's gang who got to know about the abduction decided to display their strength.
