Chennai: A conservancy worker wanted to join his five-year-old girl in an English-speaking private school but he could not afford his dream. In the spur of the moment due to his frustration, he decided to become a burglar for making quick money. 


According to a report in Times of India, P Ranjith attempted to break an ATM kiosk at Chetpet and his attempt failed. He was immediately arrested and lodged in jail. 


P Ranjith is the father of a five-year-old daughter and a three-year-old son. He was working as a driver of the garbage collection vehicle in Kodambakkam zone. His daughter is currently studying in a government school and his wife told him that they need huge sums of money to admit her to a private school.

Hence, Ranjith decided to break open an ATM kiosk on Harrington Road in Chetpet. At 3 AM on Tuesday, he disconnected the GPS of his vehicle, changed his uniform and then hit the machine with a screwdriver. However, the alarm started to buzz and he escaped immediately.


The DC special team checked the CCTV and zeroed down on Rajinth Kumar using his vehicle.

On the arrest, the police said, Ranjith was waiting for a job offer from a digital payment company before he was involved in the theft. The police have booked cases under trespassing, house-breaking in the night and theft. They have also remanded him in judicial custody.
