Chennai: Tamil Nadu BJP president Annamalai expressed his regret over the comment of BJP MLA Nainar Nagenthiran that "AIADMK lacks spine in Assembly". The BJP state president also called upon AIADMK co-coordinator Edappadi Palaniswami to convoy his apology for the statement. 


The AIADMK and BJP are in an alliance in the state.


The controversy started on Tuesday when BJP MLA and former AIADMK minister Nainar Nagenthiran addressed the party workers in Valluvar Kottam in Chennai said, "I am unable to see AIADMK bravely talking in the state Assembly with spine and manliness".

The AIADMK members immediately took to social media to demand Nagenthiran to resign from his party seat and to win in the election without AIADMK's support. 


According to a report on ABP Nadu, the state BJP president Annamalai was also present at the event. However, later Annamalai expressed his regret over the statement and said that Nagenthiran's stance is not the stance of the party. He said that mistakenly, Annamalai said. 


Hence, the BJP state president, personally called Edappadi Palaniswami and expressed his regret.

Later, Annamalai said, AIADMK is functioning well as the opposition party and it is fighting against the ruling government in the Pongal hamper issue.


After the incident, AIADMK North Chennai district youth wing secretary Krishnamurthy along with 50 other members gave a complaint to the police urging them to take action against the MLA.
