Chennai: DMK Suspends Ward Councillor's Husband For Abusing Cops

The police are also on the lookout for Jagadeesan’s associates. 

Chennai: The DMK party suspended a DMK councillor's husband for introducing himself as the councillor of the ward and verbally abusing the police on Friday. 

According to a report on Times of India, Jagadeesan, husband of Niranjana, ward 15 councillor of Royapuram zone, verbally abused police personnel on patrol. 

While police were patrolling on JP Koil Street, Jagadeesan along with five others asked why the cops were out on the road at that hour of the night. Later, he reportedly started a heated argument. 

A video of the incident was also recorded by the police. In the video, Jagaseesan was seen daring the police to take action against him and also mentioned that he's the councillor of the ward.

Following this, based on the complaint of the policemen, Washermenpet police registered a case against Jagadeesan under charges including unlawful assembly, abuse, criminal intimidation and using criminal force against public servants of the Indian Penal Code. 

The police are also on the lookout for Jagadeesan’s associates.

However, this is not the first time the husbands of the councillors claim to hold the top post of the ward.

Meanwhile, Chennai Mayor Priya Rajan in a press meet on Friday said, “The person who was allotted the job should perform their work. The elected Councillor should represent their wards and work for the people. If the elected person uses the authority wrongly then DMK high command will take action against them.”
