BJP Leader Held For Making Derogatory Remarks Against Tamil Nadu CM Stalin

Jagadeesan was arrested and accused with violating sections 67 of the IT Act, 294(B), 153(A)1(B), and 505(2) of the IPC.

Jagadeesan, a BJP member from Tamil Nadu's Kanchipuram district, was detained after making insulting statements about the chief minister and his family. The DMK advocate wing has filed a complaint with the police, news agency ANI reported.

Jagadeesan was arrested and accused with violating sections 67 of the IT Act, 294(B), 153(A)1(B), and 505(2) of the IPC.

The BJP lashed out, claiming that although no action was taken against Shivaji Krishnamurthy and RS Bharati for their threatening utterances against the governor, swift action was taken against Jagadeesan, forcing the BJP to question the police's double standards.

“I don't want to justify what he has spoken, whoever speaks such derogatory remarks about anyone needs to be punished but police and the Tamil Nadu government, have not yet arrested Shivaji Krishnamurthy who said he will kill the governor by sending terrorists. So, this government should not be partial,” BJP spokesperson Narayan Tirupati was quoted by Times Now in its report.

In response, the DMK stated that they had previously taken action against Krishnamurthy and that the BJP's claims made no sense.

“We have removed him (Krishnamurthy) from the party. We have asked the police to take action and the police are looking into it we are not protecting him from arrest. Action is being taken. What this man spoke about the Kalaingar family is much more derogatory than what Shivaji Krishnamurthy spoke,” TKS Elangovan, the spokesperson of the DMK party was cited by Times Now in its report.

According to the police, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and his family were disparaged and mocked in a YouTube video by Jegadeesan, a district-level BJP member. In reaction to the social media post, the DMK's district attorneys in Kancheepuram filed a case with the Cyber Crime Wing.
