9 Students Suspended For Ragging At Adi Dravidar Hostel In Tamil Nadu

The students alleged that their seniors whipped them with a bundle of ropes for refusing to do the work assigned to them.

Nine students of Arignar Anna Government Arts College in Cheyyar of Tiruvannamalai were suspended for a month for allegedly ragging their juniors on Wednesday.

According to a report on Times of India, action was taken against the nine students based on the inquiry by the college's anti-ragging cell on Wednesday.

A couple of days ago, first-year students of the Adi Dravidar Welfare Hostel gave a complaint that they were beaten by their seniors for not obeying their commands. The students said that they were whipped with a bundle of ropes on their backs.

They also alleged that they were forced by their seniors to clean the latter’s plates, wash clothes and to have dinner only after their seniors. They also said that they were made to hang from slab until they agreed to do the work.

On this regard, the students submitted the complaint to Principal Kalaivani on Tuesday.

Talking to The Hindu, Kalaivani said, "Collector B. Murugesh spoke to me over the phone. Based on his advice and the inquiry report of the anti-ragging cell, the suspension order has been issued. Further inquiry is being done."

The incident recorded by one of the students also went viral on social media.

Of the nine students, eight students were studying final year while one of the students was studying second year. The suspension order has been issued for a period of one month.
