Kolkata Doctor Death Case: RG Kar Medicos Not Happy With SIT Report, Put Forth 6-Point Demands After Key Meet

RG Kar Hospital Doctor Death: The protesting student-doctors presented six-point demands at the General Body meeting.

Kolkata Doctor Murder: RG Kar Hospital held a General Body meeting in connection with the rape and murder of the trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in West Bengal's Kolkata. Following the meeting, the agitators said that they are not satisfied with the SIT investigation and called for a judicial inquiry.

At the General Body meeting at RG Kar Hospital, the protesting student-doctors presented six-point demands and said that the police should complete the investigation by August 14.

In addition to this, the junior doctors of 21 medical colleges and hospitals in the state also said that they will continue their agitation until the 6-point demands are met, including the production of CCTV camera footage and a post-mortem report.

RG Kar Hospital Doctor Death: Here Are The Six Demands Put Forward By Protesters  

  • Immediate judicial inquiry of the case and arrest of the culprits by August 14, 2024, with capital punishment for the culprits. The relevant evidence, including CCTV footage and post-mortem reports, should be shared with nominated representatives.
  • Written apology and written resignation of higher authorities (Principal, MSVP, Dean of Students’ Affairs, HOD of Respiratory Medicine, and Assistant Superintendent on duty that day), with the stipulation that they should not be assigned any administrative or authoritative positions in any institution for the remaining duration of their service. We do not comply with the recent Swasthya Bhavan orders on this matter.
  • No amount of compensation can make up for a life lost; however, being the only child, her parents deserve financial compensation with lifelong support provided by the government, which should be announced immediately.
  • Ensure adequate workplace security measures in all medical colleges and healthcare facilities (including CCTV, male and female security guards, police picketing and patrolling, and proper on-call rooms) with immediate effect.
  • Public apology for the brutal assault upon medical students and junior doctors by Kolkata Police on 10/08/24.
  • The Commissioner of Police should take strict, necessary, and immediate action against digital defamation being circulated on social media.

Sanjoy Roy, a civic volunteer working with the Kolkata Police, has been arrested for the crime. The body of the woman doctor was found in a seminar hall at the hospital on Friday morning, and a civic volunteer was arrested on Saturday in connection with the crime.

There Were Several Security Lapses: NCW 

West Bengal, NCW member Delina Khongdup said, "We have asked the Hospital authorities for the report, they will submit it to us...Police sent their report to the Commission yesterday itself regarding the action so far. We will study it again today...There were indeed several security lapses here. Authority has promised that they will check it, but give them some time."

On Principal of the Medical College & Hospital reassigned to another College shortly after resignation, NCW member she said, "...It is going to take a little time until there is proof..." She further stated, "Police have submitted Action Taken Report, Daily Report."

Kolkata Hospital Doctor Death: What Did Autopsy Report Say?

Meanwhile earlier, details emerged the Kolkata doctor's death. The postmortem report revealed that she was throttled to death and the accused had hit her so hard the glasses of her spectacles shattered, shards piercing her eyes.

The post-mortem report stated the doctor had suffered several injuries, and cuts were found on her hands and face. "Homicidal injuries are antemortem in nature with an indication of sexual penetration," the report stated, as quoted by NDTV.
