The Calcutta High Court further agreed to a suggestion by a lawyer to ask all the media persons to circulate on their own that the identity of of victim is not diclosed.
On disclosure of victim's identity, the high court further said that our August 16 order is very clear. "We had requested those known to the victim and all new and media portals to abide by law and not circulate the victim's identity."
The court was also informed that the SIT constituted by the West Bengal government to probe the RG Kar Hospital's financial dealings is an eyewash. The court asked the counsel to file the application formaly. Another lawyer said that he is appearing for a plea to direct doctors to end strike as patients are dying.
The high court adjourned the hearing, noting that judicial discipline demands that they wait to see what happens in the Supreme Court.
Supreme Court on Tuesday heard the suo motu case over the rape and murder of a doctor at the RG Kar Medical College Hospital, Kolkata. The apex court grilled the West Bengal government over its handling of the case and asked why the FIR was registered at 11:45 PM when the crime was detected early in the morning.
The CJI DY Chandrachud led bench said that the case has shocked the conscience of the nation and expressed concern over the victim's pictures and names being circulated on social media.
"We took suo motu action because this is not just the matter of a particular horrific murder and rape...but it raises systemic issue of safety of doctors across India," CJI said.
The Supreme Court constituted a National Task Force (NTF) to ensure safety of all medical professionals across India. The top court while hearing the case pertaining to the brutal rape and murder of a women doctor observed that medical professional have to face various forms of violence even as they work round the clock.
The Supreme Court further directed the Centre to deploy Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) at the RG Kar Hospital where a woman doctor was raped and murdered. The direction came after the Counsel appearing for Organisation of Doctors of West Bengal placed on record a complaint by a senior resident setting out details of the incidents. The court was told that while the Doctors were participating in the protest "Reclaiming the Night," women doctors at RG Kar Hospital were threatened that they will meet the same fate as the rape victim if they continued with the protest.
