'Even Taliban Govt Would Feel Ashamed': BJP Slams Mamata Banerjee Govt Over Assault On Women

Former Union Minister Pratima Bhoumik slammed the Mamata Banerjee government over cases of assault on women in West Bengal.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has been launching scathing attacks on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the RG Kar rape and murder case. On Sunday, former Union Minister Pratima Bhoumik described the Mamata Banerjee-led government in West Bengal as a "government of goons" rather than a government of the people.

Despite having a woman chief minister, Bhoumik alleged that the government has failed to protect women and instead tries to cover up evidence of crimes against them.

The BJP leader claimed that the state has descended into "goonda raj" (rule of goons) under the Trinamool Congress government, with even the Taliban regime being more ashamed of its actions.

She alleged that the government has tried to protect perpetrators of crimes against women instead of taking action against them.

"This is not Mamata's government but a government of goons," she said.

"Despite having a woman chief minister, the atrocities on women show how she does not order an investigation but tries to destroy evidence," Bhoumik said, adding: "There is hooliganism in Bengal."

Referring to the recent incidents of violence against women in the state, Bhoumik expressed outrage that women do not feel safe in West Bengal, from 5-year-old girls to 95-year-old women.

Bhoumik accused the TMC leadership of speaking only what their leader Mamata Banerjee wanted to hear and called out the government as a "government of thieves and dacoits" with Banerjee as their leader.

Bhoumik contrasted the situation with the BJP-ruled state, where she claimed that perpetrators of crimes against women are arrested within 24 hours. "In West Bengal, however, the government tries to protect them within 24 hours," she alleged.

The Mamata Banerjee government is facing the heat from the opposition over the rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
