Alleged Assault On Minority Woman In Cooch Behar
BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari alleged that a female leader of the BJP Minority Morcha was assaulted by TMC supporters in the Cooch Behar district on June 25. Adhikari, the opposition leader in the West Bengal assembly, stated that he has contacted the National Commission for Women (NCW), and the National Commission for Minorities (NCM), urging them to investigate the incident.
"A female leader of BJP Minority Morcha was beaten up by TMC goons in Goksasdanga. Her clothes were also torn in public. She is at present admitted to a hospital. The police are not taking any action against the accused," Akhikari alleged, as reported by PTI.
Adhikari expressed hope that the NHRC, NCW, and NCM would soon send teams to the area.
The victim, speaking from the hospital, stated, "TMC goons said they were punishing me for being associated with the BJP". However, the TMC denied the allegation, claiming the incident was related to a property dispute, the PTI report said.
"The TMC has nothing to with the incident. This incident is the result of a property dispute. The allegations are baseless and politically motivated," a district TMC leader was quoted as saying by PTI.
The police confirmed that the matter is under investigation.
