UP Woman Dies After Quack Delivers Baby At Illegal Nursing Home

According to officials, the doctor who delivered the baby was practising without any valid medical degree.

New Delhi: A 22-year-old woman died after delivering a baby at a private nursing home in Uttar Pradesh’s Bhadohi which was allegedly not registered with the health department, PTI reported citing officials. The incident took place on Saturday.

According to officials, the doctor who delivered the baby was practising without any valid medical degree. As per the news agency, the doctor has fled the spot.

The health department along with local police are investigating the matter.

Deputy Chief Medical Officer JC Saroj told the news agency, that the newborn is alive, however, the doctor has allegedly fled the spot.

The victim, Ritu Devi, was admitted to the private nursing home on Friday.

“Ritu Devi (22), wife of one Virendra Kumar was admitted at a private nursing home on Friday. The doctor at the hospital, one Sailesh Saroj, delivered her baby after a surgery on Saturday. The woman died after the surgery. The newborn is alive,” the deputy CMO told PTI.

The officer further said that the nursing home was not registered with the health department and that the doctor was also practising without any valid medical degree as per preliminary investigation, the deputy CMO said.

After the incident, the doctor reportedly asked other patients who were admitted at the nursing home to leave and fled from the spot, the officer added.

The police have sent the body for post-mortem examination and lodged an FIR in the matter.

In another similar incident reported in January this year, a 30-year-old pregnant woman died at an illegal hospital in the Gulriha area of Gorakhpur after she had gone there for treatment. The matter came to light after the husband of the deceased registered a complaint against the hospital manager Ranjit Nishad. 

During the investigation, police found that Nishad had only studied till class 12 and the hospital that he ran was registered using the certificates of doctors who never came there to treat anyone.

Police also found that Nishad was previously operating the same hospital under two different names.

The hospital was closed by the health department for malpractices both the time but the accused still managed to reopen it under a different name, the SSP had said.
