Water Level Of Rivers Rise In Prayagraj, Hundreds Of Bodies Buried On Banks May Submerge In Ganga

Thousands of dead bodies were buried at Shringverpur, Deorakh, Arail, Chhatnag, and other ghats. In the recent past, water has been released from several barrages in the Ganga, which will further raise the water level once it reaches Prayagraj.

Prayagraj: The water level of both the Ganga and Yamuna rivers is rising rapidly in Sangam city of Prayagraj. While the people living in the alluvial areas are worried about the possibility of floods due to the rise in the water levels, there has also been an increased risk of the bodies buried on the banks of the Ganges surface out.

After the rising water, the work of taking out the dead bodies from the graves and cremating them at the crematorium in the Phaphamau area has been expedited at double the speed. These days, fifteen to twenty-five bodies are being removed from the tombs and cremated every day. However, the cremation work is now facing difficulties as the place where the bodies have been buried has become an island and is surrounded by water.

Due to the rising water level, it has now been decided not to cremate the dead bodies during the night after sunset. More importantly, during the second wave of corona in April and May, a large number of bodies buried on the banks of the Ganga are being removed from the tombs and cremated to prevent them from being absorbed in the Ganga, while the cremation is going on only at Phaphamau Ghat, Thousands of bodies were also buried at Shringverpur, Deorakh, Arail, Chhatnag, and other ghats.

In such a situation, if buried bodies are not taken out and cremated in time like Phaphamau, they are bound to be absorbed in the Ganges in the coming days. Despite this grave concern, the government staff is still asleep and they are waiting for the dead bodies to submerge in the Ganges and create havoc.

Water has been released from several barrages in the Ganges

In the recent past, water has been released from several barrages in the Ganga, which will further raise the water level once it reaches Prayagraj. Despite this, the negligent attitude of the government staff has become a cause for concern. Hundreds of dead bodies are bound to be absorbed in the Ganges and the water of Ganga will be polluted hence creating a ruckus.

However, at Phaphamau Ghat, the municipal team under the leadership of zonal officer Neeraj Kumar Singh and members of the monitoring committee, councilors Mukund Tiwari and Kamlesh Tiwari, is doing a good job. The SDRF team is also continuously monitoring using motorboats here. According to Neeraj Kumar Singh, the zonal officer of the Municipal Corporation, a large number of cremations are being done to prevent the dead bodies from being absorbed in the Ganges and save them from plight.
