UP: 2 Killed In Clash Between Two Groups Over Love Marriage In Muzaffarnagar

Two people were killed and two other were seriously injured in a clash over love marriage in Fulat village in Uttar Pradesh's Muzafarnagar city.

A clash between two groups over a love marriage in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar city led to the death of two people while two others were left injured, said the police on Wednesday. The incident took place in Fulat village and the police said that the clashing groups belonged to the same cast.

The two deceased were identified as Ankit and Rohit while Rahul and Harimohan were admitted in a hospital, news agency PTI reported.

Ankit had married Harimohan's daughter against the wishes of her family following which a confrontation started between the two on Tuesday, Senior Superintendent of Police Abhishek Singh told PTI. The clash turned violent as the people involved used firearms which resulted in the deaths and injuries, SSP added.

As per the police official, a case has been registered against three people including Govardhan, Monu, and Raju. Although the situation is under control, police personnel have been deployed in the village to maintain law and order, PTI reported.

In another clash between two communities which happened over an inter-community marriage in Karnataka's Koppal district in August 2022, two people were killed and few others were injured after the clash turned violent. 

Rudresh Ujjankoppa, a boy from the Nayak community fell in love and got married to a Muslim girl. Shortly after their families got into a fight as they did not approve of their marriage, as per a TOI report.  

A police officer stated that a team was rushed to the spot after they took cognisance of the incident and deployed intense security in the village to bring the situation under control. 

As a precautionary measure, Section 144 of CrPC was imposed within a 2 km radius of the village to maintain law and order. 

Another similar case of honour killing was reported from Bihar's Buxar district in June 2022 after a man shot dead his son-in-law in broad daylight for marrying his daughter against his wishes. The girl's family did not approve of the boy as he belonged to a different caste, NDTV reported.
