Hate Posters Crop Up Against AMU VC For Condoling BJP Veteran Kalyan Singh's Death

AMU Dispute: The AMU VC issued a condolence message over Kalyan Singh's demise. After his message, posters were put across campus against the Vice-Chancellor in protest of his condolence message.

New Delhi: AMU Vice Chancellor Tariq Mansoor is being condemned by the students for mourning the passing away of former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh.

Hate posters were spotted at some places on the AMU campus. While the posters have now been removed by the AMU administration, it is yet to be ascertained who put up the posters.

A press note titled 'AMU Vice-Chancellor condoles the passing away of Kalyan Singh' was sent by the Public Relations Department of AMU on August 22. In the note, Prof. Tariq Mansoor, Vice-Chancellor, Aligarh Muslim University  condoled the passing away of former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and former Governor of Rajasthan Kalyan Singh.

Professor Mansoor said that Kalyan Singh played an important role in the public life of the country and the development of Uttar Pradesh. May God give peace to his soul and give his family the strength to bear this immense loss. Prof. Tariq Mansoor expressed his condolences and sympathy to Rajveer Singh, son of Kalyan Singh.

The next day, the news appeared in all local newspapers, after which hate posters were spotted at some places inside the campus. The message in the poster condemned AMU's Vice-Chancellor.

The message also said that praying for a criminal is an unforgiving crime. The note added, 'the condolent words of the Vice-Chancellor on the demise of ex-chief minister of Uttar Pradesh Kalyan Singh is not only a matter of shame but also hurting religious sentiments of our community.' Kalyan Singh was responsible in the demolition of the Babri Masjid, stated the message on the poster.

There was a commotion after the posters surfaced on the campus. The pamphlets were later removed. When the matter was discussed with former AMU students union president Faizul Hassan, he said that he received the message about the notice that was put on the campus. We tried to find out who pasted such notice. It doesn't have any name. Anyone can put up such a poster.

He added that there are cameras everywhere. The notice brings focus to the death of Kalyan Singh and its response issued by the Vice-Chancellor. The message given by the VC in the newspaper said that the country has suffered due to the departure of Kalyan Sing.

To that, I had replied that the country may not have suffered but our VC has suffered a personal loss. Everyone knew they had a close bond and both had their homes on the same road. They had a very old relationship. Both families used to join varied programs together. Every one is aware of their friendship. The message from the board reflected VC's personal feelings and relationship with the former CM.

Another student leader confirmed that he does not know who put up the poster against the VC.

The content clearly states that the tribute or grief expressed for Kalyan Singh is not tolerated. The reason being that Kalyan Singh was said to be the culprit in the demolition of Babri Masjid.

The expressing of grief by VC on Kalyan Singh's death is hurtful to the community. The note recalled Kalyan Singh as an offender of disdain with regard to the Supreme Court order. The incident will forever hurt our community. The people will never tolerate this.
