Allahabad High Court Directs Crack Down On Modified Bikes Causing Noise Pollution
The High Court has given an important order regarding the noise pollution caused by modified bikes in UP.
Allahabad: Warning alert for bike riders in UP who use modified silencers. In fact, the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court has directed the officials to crack down on bikers who cause noise pollution through noise mufflers or silencers. The court has asked the officials to file a personal affidavit by the next date of hearing on the action taken against the owners of such bikes.
A bench of Justice Abdul Moin passed the order on Tuesday, taking suo moto cognizance of noise pollution caused by modification of silencers in Indian and foreign-made two-wheelers, producing noise above the permissible limit of 80 decibels.
Matter registered as a public interest litigation
Suggesting the matter to be treated as a PIL and placed before an appropriate bench, Justice Moin has directed the Principal Secretary (Transport), Principal Secretary, (Home), Director General of Police, Chairman, State Pollution Control Board, and Deputy Commissioner of Police to look into the matter. The Lucknow bench has been asked to file its compliance affidavit by August 10.
High Court expressed concern
Expressing concern over the noise pollution of vehicles, the court said that the noise of bikes has created a situation where a vehicle is being driven hundreds of meters away can be heard due to modified silencers, causing inconvenience to children, old and ill, and others. The bench said that the limits for scooters and motorcycles range from 75 to 80 decibels that are fixed during the manufacturing stage. By modifying the silencer or removing the muffler, the noise limit goes up to more than 80 decibels.
