South India, home to nearly 20% of India's population, has long been at the forefront of the nation’s development. Contributing an impressive 31% to the country's GDP, this figure is expected to rise to 35% by 2030, highlighting the region's pivotal role in India’s economic landscape.
In recent years, a reassertion of regional identities, two newly elected state governments, and the emergence of a new political balance at the Centre have set the stage for a reinvigorated South India, which is continuing to set benchmarks in governance, social cohesion, and cultural dynamism.

Bringing Together Key Players In South India's Transformative Journey
The Southern Rising Summit had its successful first outing in Chennai in 2023, when an array of speakers celebrated ideas that define South India.
Held months before the crucial 2024 Lok Sabha election, the daylong session started with then Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan sharing her views on "redefining the Governor's role", and saw the likes of Grammy Award winning music composer Ricky Kej, actor Rana Daggubati, author Gurcharan Das, Tamil Nadu IT Minister P Thiaga Rajan, CPI(M) MP John Brittas, and Udhayanidhi Stalin, among other speakers, delve on topics such as 'why India needs federalism', 'the Tamil Nadu model and what the country can learn from it', and 'women in politics'.
The 2024 summit in Hyderabad — a city symbolising ambition and aspiration — will bring together key players in South India's transformative journey. The second edition of 'The Southern Rising Summit' promises to delve into the innovative governance models that have made South India a leader in education and healthcare, and explore how the region’s contributions to India's future continue to expand.
