Ahead of unveiling the flag, Vijay read a pledge, "We will always appreciate the fighters who fought and sacrificed their life for the liberation of our country and countless soldiers who fought tirelessly for the rights of our people from Tamil soil...I will remove the differences in the name of caste, religion, gender, place of birth, create awareness among the people and strive for equal opportunities and equal rights for all. I solemnly affirm that I will uphold the principle of equality for all living beings."
TVK flag: Symbolism Of Vagai Flower
The Vagai flower, deeply rooted in Tamil culture, has been present in the region since the Sangam period. During this era, warriors would burn the Vagai flower to signify victory in battle. This flower became emblematic of success, with returning leaders donning garlands of Vagai flowers to symbolize their triumph. If a leader wore this flower, it was a clear indication of their victorious return.
The Vagai tree, known as the Syrissa tree in English, can grow up to 25 meters in height. Its broad, umbrella-like branches are a distinctive feature. Predominantly found in South Asia, the Vagai tree thrives in dry zones, making Tamil Nadu in India and a few parts in Sri Lanka its natural heritage habitat.
Earlier this year, in February, Vijay announced the formation of Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam, confirming his intention to contest the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Despite the party's establishment, it remained neutral in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, where the DMK-led coalition emerged victorious in Tamil Nadu.
