Southwest Monsoon Covers Entire Northeast, More Rain In Store For South

IMD officials have stated that conditions are favourable for monsoon to further advance over next 2 to 3 days. Additionally, monsoon is likely to advance into more regions of TN and SW Bay of Bengal.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced significant progress in the advancement of the Southwest Monsoon. According to the latest update, the monsoon has now covered the remaining parts of northeast Bay of Bengal and parts of northwest Bay of Bengal. Additionally, it has advanced into the remaining areas of Tripura, Meghalaya and Assam as well as most parts of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.

IMD officials have stated that conditions are favourable for the monsoon to further advance over the next two to three days. This progress is expected to cover some more parts of the central Arabian Sea, the remaining parts of the south Arabian Sea, the Lakshadweep area, Kerala, and parts of Karnataka. Additionally, the monsoon is likely to advance into more regions of Tamil Nadu and the Southwest Bay of Bengal.

The IMD said, "The Southwest Monsoon has advanced into remaining parts of northeast Bay of Bengal and some parts of northwest Bay of Bengal, remaining parts of Tripura, Meghalaya and Assam and most parts of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim."

"Conditions are favourable for further advance of Southwest Monsoon into some more parts of central Arabian Sea, remaining parts of south Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep area, Kerala, some parts of Karnataka, some more parts of Tamil Nadu & Southwest Bay of Bengal during next 2-3 days," it added.
 
The IMD's forecast indicates a gradual and consistent spread of the monsoon which is crucial for the agricultural sector and water resource management in these regions.
 
On weather update and heat wave, IMD scientist Soma Sen said, "There have been a lot of casualties in Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha in the last 24 hours. What we expect is that gradually heat wave conditions will abate from this entire region from tomorrow....Based on this, in most of these states, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Bihar and Jharkhand in all these states we have given an Orange alert for heat waves has been issued today. Tomorrow heat wave conditions are likely to reduce slightly because of which most of these states will go to yellow alert. Punjab and Haryana orange alert will continue along with Orisha..."
 
 

Cyclone Remal Wrecks Havoc In Manipur

Three people have died and thousands have been impacted by floods resulting from continuous downpour in the Imphal valley, officials reported.

Persistent rainfall, triggered by Cyclone Remal, has caused widespread flooding across multiple districts in Manipur, prompting the state government to launch active rescue and relief operations, an official stated. Citizens have been advised to remain indoors unless faced with an emergency, according to a government directive. Waterlogging has been reported at the Raj Bhavan in Manipur following the torrential rains over the past few days in the aftermath of Cyclone Remal, officials noted on Friday.

Manipur’s Minister for Water Resources and Relief & Disaster Management, Awangbou Newmai, announced on Thursday evening that a total of 1,88,143 people have been affected by the floods in the northeastern state, and at least 24,265 houses have been damaged.
