Meet C P Radhakrishnan, Newly Appointed Maharashtra Governor Who Led A Historic 3-Month-Long Rath Yatra

Maharashtra Governor: C. P. Radhakrishnan, a 67-year-old BJP leader from southern India, is a well-known figure with RSS roots.

Maharashtra News Updates: C. P. Radhakrishnan was appointed as the new governor of Maharashtra on Sunday. After Ramesh Bais (February 18, 2023, to July 28, 2024) and Bhagat Singh Koshyari (2019–2023), Radhakrishnan became the third governor of Maharashtra in the last five years. Radhakrishnan became the 24th governor of Maharashtra with this appointment. 

On July 28, the tenure of the current governor of Maharashtra, Ramesh Bais, came to an end, and a new governor was named. Notably, extensions were not granted to governors appointed during the first term of the Modi government, meaning it is unlikely that departing governors will be granted another term.

C. P. Radhakrishnan: From Jan Sangh To BJP 

C. P. Radhakrishnan, a 67-year-old BJP leader from southern India, is a well-known figure. Born in Tirupur on May 4, 1957, he started his political career at the age of 16, working for the Jan Sangh and then the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). He served as the president of the BJP's Tamil Nadu unit from 2004 to 2007 and won the Coimbatore seat in two Lok Sabha elections. He arranged a famous three-month Rath Yatra during his tenure. Radhakrishnan has additionally represented India at the UN General Assembly.

10 Newly Appointed Governors 

BJP MLA and prominent Maharashtra leader Haribhau Bagde has been named the new governor of Rajasthan. Announcements regarding transfers and appointments were made for 10 states in all. The appointments will become operative from the day the incumbents assume office.

Droupadi Murmu, the President of India, made the announcement of these appointments via an official notification from Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The new governors appointed are as follows:

  1. C. P. Radhakrishnan, Maharashtra
  2. Haribhau Kisanrao Bagde, Rajasthan
  3. Santosh Kumar Gangwar (Jharkhand)
  4. Raman Deka, Chhattisgarh
  5. C. H. Vijayashankar, Meghalaya
  6. Om Prakash Mathur, Sikkim
  7. Gulab Chand Kataria, Punjab, and Chandigarh
  8. Lakshman Prasad Acharya, Assam, and Manipur (additional charge)
  9. Jishnu Dev Varma, Telangana
  10. K. Kailashnathan, Puducherry (Lieutenant Governor)

Santosh Kumar Gangwar has assumed the role of governor of Jharkhand, succeeding C. P. Radhakrishnan, who has been appointed as the governor of Maharashtra.
