Five Dead In Maharashtra As Bus Carrying Devotees Collides With Tractor, Falls Into Ditch

The devotees were travelling from Maharashtra’s Kesar village of Dombivli to Pandharpur in a private bus, on the occasion of Asadhi Ekadashi, when the accident occurred.

Five people were killed and 49 injured after a bus carrying devotees collided with a tractor, and fell into a ditch near the Mumbai-Pune Expressway at around 1 AM on Tuesday.

The bus was taking devotees from Maharashtra’s Kesar village of Dombivli to Pandharpur when the accident occurred, according to ANI.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Vivek Pansare said that the bus passengers were travelling to Pandharpur in a private vehicle on the occasion of Asadhi Ekadashi. He added that 42 people were taken to the nearby MGM Hospital after the collision, while three were taken to a government hospital. 

“Doctors have confirmed that 5 people have lost their lives...", Pansare added, reported ANI.

The incident halted vehicular movement on the Mumbai-Lonavala lane of the expressway as the bus was being lifted using a crane. Traffic on the lane only resumed after three hours, reported ANI. 

Bus Overturns In Raigad 

On Monday, four people were injured as a speeding bus overturned in Maharashtra’s Raigad district. The accident took place at Karlekhind in the Poynad area when a Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus, carrying around 50 passengers, was going from Alibaug to Panvel, according to a PTI report.

As per the report, the bus driver lost control of the wheels after an axle broke, and as a result, the vehicle overturned. 

The injured were rushed to a hospital for treatment, and they were said to be out of danger.
