Maharashtra: BJP MLA Alleges Women Asked To Remove Saffron Scarves At Cinema Hall Screening 'The Kashmir Files'

Asking the MVA government on why it was ‘so angry’ with the colour saffron, the BJP MLA demanded action against the security guards involved in the incident.

New Delhi: Some women who had gone to a movie theatre in Nashik in Maharashtra to watch ‘The Kashmir Files’ were allegedly asked to take off the saffron scarves they were wearing before entering the premises based on an ‘order from above’, a BJP MLA said in the state Assembly on Friday.

According to BJP MLA from Nashik Central, Devyani Pharande, some women who had gone to watch the movie were asked to deposit the saffron scarves they were wearing based on an order. Raising the issue, Pharande asked the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government to explain if such an order had been passed or else take action against the theatre owner concerned.

Asking the MVA government on why it was ‘so angry’ with the colour saffron, the BJP MLA demanded action against the security guards involved in the incident.

Some women had gone to see 'The Kashmir Files' at PVR in Nashik. They had worn saffron scarves so that they could identify each other in the theatre.

The security guards there asked the women to deposit the scarves and tried to snatch it from those who refused to deposit them. They (the security guards) said they had orders from above, Pharande claimed.

“Who gave the 'order from above' to the owner of the PVR theatre? The government should explain if such an order had been passed. Or else, take action against the PVR theatre,” news agency PTI quoted Pharande as saying.

Responding to the legislator’s allegations, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anil Parab said that the state Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil will be informed immediately about this matter.
