'Ajit Pawar Is NCP President': Rebel Faction Says Sharad Pawar's Meeting Has No Legal Sanctity

The rebel group said since the matter on who represents the NCP is in the jurisdiction of EC, Sharad Pawar's meeting has no legal sanctity.

New Delhi: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) working committee meeting called by Sharad Pawar in Delhi on Thursday has no legal sanctity, the Ajit Pawar-led faction said, as reported by news agency PTI. “It is learnt from various media reports that Sharad Pawar has called a meeting of the National Executive/National Working Committee/National Office Bearers/State Party Presidents of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) today in New Delhi,” a statement on behalf of Ajit Pawar said.

“Ajit Pawar has been elected as the National President of NCP on 30.06.2023 with the overwhelming support of the majority of elected representatives of NCP as well as the members working on different organizational post,” the statement said.

The statement by the rebel faction also read that Ajit Pawar has filed a petition before the Election Commission stating that he represents the real NCP and thus, the name of the party along with the symbol be granted to him.

“The dispute on the question of who represents the real NCP is within the exclusive jurisdiction of the ECI and therefore no person within the Party has any authority to call for any meeting of the National Executive/National Working Committee/ National Office Bearers / State Party Presidents till such time the dispute is finally decided by the ECI,” the statement said.

The rebel group further said since the matter is in the jurisdiction of EC, the meeting has no legal sanctity and any decision that may be taken will have no legal basis and won’t be binding on anyone in the party.

Meanwhile, Sharad Pawar said the national executive meeting helped boost the morale of the party and asserted that he is the party president.

Addressing the media after the party's national executive meeting in Delhi, Pawar said, "I am the president of NCP, if someone says (that he is the president) then it is completely false, there's no truth in it. There's no importance if someone (Ajit Pawar) says something."
